ACCOLADE FOR IHC ENGINEERING BUSINESS YOUNG ENGINEER

29th December 2008

IHC Engineering Business (EB) has an enviable reputation for employing and nurturing young engineering talent; and again this has paid off with news that Martin Jolliffe (24) has been awarded the NOF Best Newcomer to the Industry Award at the NOF Energy Annual Dinner.

"Young engineers are the life blood of our industry and our company, and in congratulating Martin on his achievement we are delighted to note that in three of the past four years young members of EB have won this award," says Dr Tony Trapp, EB's Managing Director who was awarded the 'Outstanding Contribution to Oil and Gas Award' at the same dinner.

"Expansion in all the markets we serve - oil and gas; marine renewable energy; telecoms; and defence - means there is on-going demand for highly skilled engineers and we are firmly committed to developing new talent. Indeed, our search for talented young engineers ensures that we keep good and continuing links with Universities all over the country. I am glad to say that both our earlier winners of the award - Michael Smith, and Angus Kimpton - are still with us and going from strength to strength as Senior Engineers. We now have some 150 gifted engineers working for the company; and an order book of over £60 million."

About Martin Jolliffe and his work
Martin Jolliffe, who is originally from Cottingham in East Yorkshire, joined EB in November 2007 having studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham where he gained his MEng. His year at EB has been largely spent working on a handling system for a tidal turbine being developed by Voith Siemens, one of the largest companies in Europe. "He has been involved in the project since the initial concept phases; and has played a key role at a number of exhibitions and conferences in order to build on his marketing experience," explains Tony Trapp. "Once this project is completed there are many other interesting challenges lying ahead for him!"
