Offshore Wind

The offshore wind industry presents many challenges for the safe, efficient and cost effective installation of turbines, foundations and substations in the marine environment. EB pioneered the use of new techniques for the construction of offshore wind farms during the installation of the first fully assembled offshore wind turbines during the Beatrice project. EB developed a method and subsequently designed and built a system to allow the first REpower 5M turbines to be installed in deep water from a floating vessel, the system known as BOWTIS.

In conjunction with its partners in the IHC Merwede Group, EB continues to develop offshore wind installation systems and vessels. Current systems under development include deck spreads and handling equipment for the installation of jacket foundations from floating vessels. Turbine seafastening and handling systems for both Jack-up and floating vessels to enable installation of fully assembled turbines. EB is also able to provide a range of component handling systems to increase the efficiency of turbine installation from jack-up crane vessels.

EB works in close cooperation with IHC Offshore Wind Energy, a business unit established to coordinate the many activities and technologies IHC is able to supply the sector.
